LATA LAYANG - KLAYANG
There is one
waterfall that not many people know the existence at Jerantut, Pahang. Located
at Kampung Pagi, Ulu Tembeling, this waterfall will show you the natural beauty
of the nature. Surrounded by the tree and being far away from the city nor the
road, we can see the magic of the nature.
From
Kuantan, it will take about 3 hours and 30 minutes to arrive at Kampung Pagi.
Upon our arrival at there, we will be greeted by the big signboard wrote
“WELCOME TO KAMPUNG PAGI”. There are stalls where we can enjoy our food. Right
beside the stall, there will be a jetty where all the boat park at there.
We will
check in to our accommodation around there. Most of the home stay there owned
by the local residents. The accommodation that was prepared for us is suitable
for tourist that come in a group form. Our main transport at there will be 4WD
vehicle and boat for water activity.
The guard
will pick up our bag and put them at our accommodation while we proceed to
lunch at there. After that, we will proceed to our first water activity and
that is going to “Kampong Orang Asli“ named Aborigin Village. We will use boat as our transportation to go
there. From Kampung Pagi Jetty it will take around 15 minutes to arrive at the
Aborigin Village.
Most of the
people at Aborigin Village is Negrito tribe. They live in nomadic way, move
from one place to another place within Taman Negara. They will married to
people among themselves. One of the fun fact about them is they have to stay
loyal only to their partner for the rest of their live. They could not get a
divorce and the man can not married more than once. They also have age limit in
their marriage procedure based on their tribe trust. For men their marriage age
is 20 years old until 25 years old and for the woman is 15 years old until 20
years old. If they pass their age limit, they have to stay single forever.
For their
children education, if their children decide to further their study the parents
will send their child to their adopted family that live near the school. One of
the reason for their decision is because of the transport problem. They have to
use water transport from their village to the jetty and vehicle on the road.
Many of the children there decide not to continue their study and stay with
their family.
There are a
few activities that we can do with them and that is a chance to see how they
survived in the jungle. They will show us how to make a fire using forest
substance. They also will show us “menyumpit” as they used them to animal
hunting. We also can make donation to them neither by clothes, food or money.
It is kind
of hard to get close to them especially with the children as they hardly get
any visitor. One of the way to get close to them is to offered them some candy.
They use jungle substance, river and animal hunting as a way for them to
continue their live.
The next
activity prepared is Rapid Shooting. For this activity we have to get ready to
get wet as they will splash the water among the boat. The cold river water will
fresh you up. With the remaining time we will play in the water.
For this
itinerary, at night we will have free and easy activities as we will use a lot
of energy for the next day. Usually we only have a dinner at night and we can
enjoy the night scenery there. We can request for the 4wd driver to drive us
around at the village.
For the
second day, we start our day with breakfast. Then we start expedition with 4wd
pick up. The road will be a little bit bouncy and have a lot of fine dust so
recommended to bring along your hat. We will start trekking and the first check
point is Kem Rimba. After a bit of rest, we will continue trekking until we
arrive at first waterfall and that is Pancho Rimau. The water itself will fresh
you up and vanished the heat and tiredness. We were told to expect more at Lata
Layang - Layang. We continue our trekking until our real destination: LATA
LAYANG-LAYANG.
The emerald
waterfall with the stairways rocks that create the waterfall will amazed
everyone that get a chance to see it. The branch with green leaf will be our
roof at the waterfall. The water flows and bird chirping will be our music
there. The nature never fail to amazed us as the human being. The fresh air and
the beautiful scenery will make you forget all the hectic things happened. The
emerald green water will fresh you up and make you forgot the tiredness from
the trekking. Lata Layang – Layang is one of the under rated waterfall so the
beauty still remain there and not damaged by the people. We enjoy our lunch
there while playing with the water. Once you go there, it will make you feel
heavy to leave the place. There are no words that can describe the beauty of
the nature. You will never get the same feel just like at there.
With a heavy
heart, we trekking back to the starting point. We use the same route with the
one we use to go there. Basically we can see a lot of new things there with new
type of tree and animals.
For the next
day, we will play in the water. As usual, we will have breakfast for some
energy. After that, we will hear some canoeing briefing. With all the safety
equipment prepared for us, we will ride boat to transfer us to the starting
point. At the starting point we will check our equipment for the last time then
Grand Kayak Adventure at Sungai Lembing starts. The distance is 15KM. Halfway
through there, we will stop for lunch at the water point. Right then, we will
continue canoeing to the exit point then we will ride 4wd back to our accommodation
and our expedition ends.
